John's Buffet on Saturday, October 29

Sox Picasso.jpgRegular readers of Cipherdom have noticed a certain White Sox slant to it in recent weeks. But I'm no Vernam-come-lately fan. I was raised in a fanatical Sox household and have been waiting patiently for, let's see . . . uh, my whole life to see a World Series in Chicago. The time has come at last.

And, wouldn't you know it, Vernam and the band are booked to perform at John's Buffet in Winfield on Saturday, October 29. John's is a cool place we've been hoping to play for the past year, and when we took the gig back in August, we knew there was a chance -- a remote one, given Sox history, but still a chance -- that Game 6 of the World Series would be played that same night. And, that Vernam would hear duty calling him to Sox Park.

So here's the plan . . . If the Sox clinch in Houston on Wednesday or Thursday, then Saturday's performance at John's Buffet will be one hell of a victory party. If the Sox need that sixth game to clinch, then our friend Mike Marsden and his excellent band will perform instead. There's a third possibility I don't want to contemplate, but in that case, we'd perform as scheduled and turn it into a proper Irish wake with alcohol, carousing, and loud music -- just like our usual shows!

John's is at the intersection of Winfield Rd. and Jewel Rd. (map). Go Sox!!
