One Other Thing I Noticed

cheney-bacon.jpg

These photos* show Sen. John Edwards with Dick Cheney at a prayer breakfast, February 1, 2001. According to the transcript, Cheney said: "Congressman Watts, Sen. Edwards, friends from across America and distinguished visitors to our country from all over the world, Lynne and I are honored to be with you all this morning." In fairness, when they sat down to eat, he probably got preoccupied.

BTW, those weekly Tuesday meetings that Cheney holds in the Senate? Only Republicans are invited. According to the L.A. Times, Cheney's infamous "fuck off" remark to Sen. Patrick Leahy was prompted by Leahy's teasing Cheney for only associating with Republicans during his Senate visits.

It means a debate about your expereinces with "D. Arnold" would make amy sicker than her previous debate-induced illness.

TOF hasn't been a blamer since 1978 when he learned that taking responsiblity is all empowering.

BTW, I sat with Alaks at the Lartnec football game yesterday. Great guy! I also saw Nairb Navonod'o. I wouldn't have mentioned it except I wanted to see how that apostrophe looked.

I'll thank you not to compare Cipherdom to CBS and those other corporate tools. Also, tell all your wimpy conservative friends to let loose with their flakey views, unless they're scared or something.

I have no earthly idea what any of that means. But I'll make a safe prediction for my progressive friends. When some cataclysmic terror attack happens tomorrow, next month, or any day in our lifetimes, TOF is going to accuse us of having facilitated the attack because of our bleeding-heart philosophy. So let's get that out of the way right now. Believe me, he's filing away every real and imagined slight so as to spring them all on me when the time is right.

amy,

You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you. I believe that, prior to this post, I have posted to you once and referenced you once. (factcheck.org please verify this!) Maybe I have a different understanding of "reference" and "several" or perhaps you secretly wished/hoped that I was referencing you in some of my allegories which are all the rage on this blog.

I can't tell you how many times I have been told that I am a beacon of light on this blog ... like Fox News in the midst of CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, etc.

No nerve struck here. The point was, if our debate a month ago made you sick ... then a debate on the subject I asked VC to avoid, would send you (and everyone else) to the hospital.

I was just "looking out for you." Believe me.

>I don't think I like you assuming I'm
>not here to defend myself.

Henceforth, I will assume you're lurking at all times. In fact, I've been surprised lately at how many people come up to me (friends and acquaintances, mostly, with very few casino webmasters among them) and say they read Cipherdom. Unfortunately, they're too shy if not downright scared to post.

>As for amy's previous post, perhaps
>she struck a nerve of TOF's since he
>has referenced her several times since,
>while she has remained in the shadows,
>if you will.

I admit this completely snookered me; I had to read it twice to make sure you (aka Amy) actually posted it. 'Course, it was 2am and I was groggy from a head cold. Ever see a Nyquil spit take? That stuff stains.

As to your actual point, I'll let TOF speak for himself. To his credit, even back to high school, he's been a friend and admirer of strong women. (That's officially the very last nice thing I'm saying about him through the election. I just felt compelled since TOF/Olam never shirks his duty as bete noire of Cipherdom.)

>OK, I have to say it - "master bater",
>more like! Yes, I went there.

Spoken like the fully liberated, post-feminist Howard Stern fan you are. ;^)

I don't think I like you assuming I'm not here to defend myself. And from what (or whom) would I even *need* to defend myself, pray tell? ;-) Oh, wait, should I also be referring to myself in the third person?

As for amy's previous post, perhaps she struck a nerve of TOF's since he has referenced her several times since, while she has remained in the shadows, if you will. She stands by her previous comment, btw, but does not feel the need to harp on it, nor does she feel like VC needs 'rescuing'. The Third Person, on the other hand... :-)

OK, I have to say it - "master bater", more like! Yes, I went there.

Given all the high school stylee oral innuendo here, I will henceforward remain...

I didn't assume she cared whether we're moral enemies ... I was specualting that she doesn't want to, again, be forced to rescue you from the cunning linguistics of the master debater.

Yes, I left the "t" out intentionally.

>Hey, in that first pic, is Cheney

You know, I hadn't noticed, but that sure is a heapin' helpin' of swine. Do you think it's all for Dire Dick?

>I merely asked who you were referring to.

>mark and the power of punctuation.

Kidding! I was kidding! Maybe for the last time this year, so don't say I didn't warn you. 8^/

>Stay away from Eht Gip ... I don’t think
>amy could handle it.

Not fair -- she isn't here to defend herself. Surely you can't blame her for assuming we're mortal enemies when we ourselves can't decide.

Posted by: VC at October 7, 2004 06:37 PM

I merely asked who you were referring to. You consistently underestimate the question mark and the power of punctuation.

Stay away from Eht Gip ... I don’t think amy could handle it.

What an outrage! I did use "slackjawed," but not with reference to any ethnic or cultural stereotype. How dare you, sir? The sin was only in your reading.

>I hope you’re not insinuating that TOF
>needed to google to know who
>originated “gazintas.”

You are to trash TV as Dean is to pop music. There, are you happy? ;^) You're letting me off lightly: I was afraid I'd have to admit you know more than Google.

BTW, when is Dean going to start referring to himself in the third person? I wonder if TOF notices the in-joke about how Vernam's use of third-person self-referentiality echoes the same proclivity exhibited by a certain incompetent high school basketball coach. Next, I'll write an allegory about how D. Arnold's piety is as dangerous to mankind as Bush's is.

Look at the post by VC on August 22, 2004 02:30 PM under “At Long Last, They Have No Sense of Decency.”

I hope you’re not insinuating that TOF needed to google to know who originated “gazintas.” You can question my character and political ideology but DO NOT question my unrivaled knowledge of TV trivia.

Hey, in that first pic, is Cheney oogling a big pile of bacon? How many bypasses can one guy have?

Posted by: deano at October 7, 2004 03:36 PM

The Cipherdom search tool yields no hits on any variant of slackjaw or yokel. Doesn't sound like Vernam to me. In fact, Cletus on the Simpsons is (with Jethro) a cardinal example of how offensive southern stereotypes are about the last kind that is deemed socially acceptable. So it bothers me, and thanks for ruining my brand-new sub-blog name. ;^)

On the other hand, since so many southerners tend to hate homosexuals, maybe this is their just desserts. But I try to be a uniter and not a divider, as you all know. 8^O

Posted by: VC at October 7, 2004 03:35 PM

Were those northern “slackjawed” yokels you were disparaging in a previous post?

Posted by: TOF at October 7, 2004 11:23 AM

There are no more mysteries, thanks to the web. But I'm trying. The /songs blog rename was an impulsive thing, and it shows. Should've waited 'til there was some new content. One trouble w/ the reference is that the B. Hillbillies was disrespectful of southern culture, which isn't Vernam's way.

We've been doing "Here Comes My Baby," whose lyrics are almost dada, though unintentionally so. I do love that tune, and playing live does nothing if not confirm that lyrics mean precious little. If only Vernam had figured that out in his youth. 8^)

So JB, did Miss Hathaway request the Yusuf Islam cover? Which one?

(I'm being followed by a) moonshadow?
The boy with the moon and star on his head?

VC would probably dig deeper, and nastier:
Come On Baby (Shift That Log).

By all means, Kirsten. Thx for dropping by. Nice blog, btw. Love the color scheme!

Posted by: VC at October 6, 2004 01:47 PM

Hope you don't mind, I borrowed your picture to post on my site as well. Sometimes I feel the need to get all the southerners in a tizzy.
