More from Naomi Klein:
Iraq was to the neocons what Afghanistan was to the Taliban: the one place on Earth where they could force everyone to live by the most literal, unyielding interpretation of their sacred texts. One would think that the bloody results of this experiment would inspire a crisis of faith: in the country where they had absolute free reign, where there was no local government to blame, where economic reforms were introduced at their most shocking and most perfect, they created, instead of a model free market, a failed state no right-thinking investor would touch. And yet the Green Zone neocons and their masters in Washington are no more likely to reexamine their core beliefs than the Taliban Mullahs were inclined to search their souls when their Islamic state slid into a debauched Hades of opium and sex slavery. When facts threaten true believers, they simply close their eyes and pray harder.
Posted by Vernam at September 20, 2004 10:24 PM | TrackBackRight, I hope TOF's complacency is emblematic of the GOP at large. I'm sure they wish the election could be held tomorrow. Unfortunately for them, GWB is going to have to pass the debate test. Unless his dad can pull some strings for him.
Kerry clearly has the momentum now. The principled statements of McCain, Lugar, and Hagel -- those flaming peaceniks -- have done what all the "liberal" media in the world could not: Shine a light on the blatant incompetence that Bush's convention bounce just temporarily obscured. All the experts say the election is about Iraq now. If that holds, he loses. Even PT Barnum got it wrong once in a while.
Posted by: VC at September 21, 2004 10:15 PMI've already moved. I'd bet McCain beats Hillary but I think she'll lose to Giuliani in '06 and will not be able to run for Pres. in '08. Any takers?

Care to put your money where your keyboard is, TOF? I'll take any action.
You also might want to read this, before you put this one to bed. It's in the WSJ, so you know it's impartial and unbiased. ;->
Op ed: Bush's continued fantasy spin on Iraq is going to be his downfall. Trying to snake oil us - as he continues to do - is a huge mistake. Luckily for Kerry, Bush is arrogant and stubborn enough that he'll 'stay the course' - right back to Crawford.
The debates are going to be amazing, of this I am sure. Must see tv.
Posted by: deano at September 21, 2004 07:05 PMAny chance we could "moveon" to something more debatable and relevant like who's going to win between Hillary and McCain in 2008? This one's over. I can't keep track of Kerry's positions on all these issues. Today he took the exact opposite position on Iraq that he took when he was running against Dean in the priamry.
Some people have "the courage of conviction," a concept foriegn to most liberals, particualry Kerry. Which way is the wind blowing? What do the polls say?
WRT facts and true believe closing their eyes, was she referreing to Kerry supporters?
