Today's edition of Cipherdom will consist entirely of a Bush supporter's reasons why we should vote for the reelection of President No-op:
In the name of Olam, we celebrate Olamadom and sing praises to all that is The Olam Factor. Olama dama ding dong.
;~>
I should finally get me a good nom de crt. 'martari manichee' was too long and I think only Art got it.
Can I make it "Olamedom?" 8^/ Ah, nevermind, you didn't even bother pointing out why Dear Leader should get one final free pass from the country he loves so well.
Let's see . . . According to the Bush clan's "Big Lie" theory, if an untruth gets repeated often enough and believed by enough people, it becomes a fact. Kind of like those pesky WMDs. So if you convince enough yokels that Kerry or McCain is a combat-addled traitor, well, all's fair. And a guy who avoided combat in Viet Nam can seek election and then re-election by trashing two guys who fought there with distinction. The guy lives happily ever after, never being forced to confront the queasy irony of his having authored our newest national tragedy in spite of -- David Halberstam asserts it's "because of" -- the fact that he never experienced war first-hand.
The Bush campaign's mentality is exactly why America is roundly despised these days. They had a serviceable word for it in my father's time, but I won't connect those dots for you. It's about imposing one's will upon the meek. About shoving one's ideology down the throats of anyone who doesn't accept it gratefully. It's everything this country once stood against. And those are some of the best reasons to vote for Kerry, because he knows the consequences of having impulsive, uninformed leaders who fancy themselves the instrument of God's infinite justice.

Posted by: Jim at August 23, 2004 08:21 PMTOF, you've missed out on an easy rebuttal. But I did it for you.
Not Vern, but who is?

I quickly scrolled through your posts and found zero posts on why Kerry should be President. Not one. Your blog … not one positive opinion from you as to why Kerry should be President. The only first person VC reference I saw was that Kerry’s convention speech was “adequate.” I saw many negative Bush posts but not one substantive reason from VC why Kerry should be President. There is little I could say that could be more powerful than that.
One key debating technique is to define the debate. IMHO I’ve won round one and my guy is the incumbent. If you want round two you’re going to have to show some red meat on what Kerry has done that deserves consideration before pulling the lever in November: his senatorial voting record, bills he has sponsored, anything you want but, keep it substantive.
Absent that, I’m more than happy to snipe at your negative Bush posts. How about another one on Swift Boats?
Just so you know, your standard, “I knew you were going to say that!” rejoinder is not substantive and will not draw a response.
