June Carter Cash

Given his poor health, folks have expected the news of Johnny Cash's passing, so it may come as a surprise that it was instead June Carter Cash who died today after heart surgery earlier this month. June was the biggest talent of the second-generation Carters. She wrote "Ring of Fire" and had a bunch of other hits with and without Johnny. Though I saw her play Robert Duvall's mother in "The Apostle," prior to reading her obituary, I'd no idea she studied acting w/ Lee Strasberg in the 50s. Posted by Vernam at May 15, 2003 10:13 PM

You and Munkle do remind me of the Carter-Cashes, now that you mention. Though I bet you never had to flush his pills. ;^) But the same symbiosis, otherwise. I suppose "Jackson" was one of the first country songs that got through to me as a kid. There was not a lot of C&W on my parents' radio. Only time I'd hear it was when my friend's dad would have it on. And that song was pretty undeniable -- I think it was a pop hit, too.

I cried a bit when I heard of her passing and certainly didn't expect to be affected that way. Hers was a gentle but feisty soul. Munkle and I have been known to perform "Jackson" so maybe by stepping into her formidable shoes I felt a little of her magic. Jackson is a funny name for heaven. Goodnight, June.

They sure seemed to be a good unit, eh? I'm all for individuality, but when there's that complimenting bit going on, it really does end up larger than the sum of two. Hear hear to partnerships of love!

(will write this @ RP too. he's also eulogizing)
