Dear Marina:

(1) Many thanks for your msgs (ATTACHMENT I and II).

(2) I would suggest that you may consider Matsumoto-city in Japan for the
sister-city relation with Gorno-Altaisk in Siberia.

It is located around the middle of Honshu (main) Japan Island, about 200
miles north-west from Tokyo, and north of Mt. Fuji.

It is very near to my hometown, Ina-city, which is about 30 minutes drive to
south from Matsumoto.

I spent almost a half dozen years in the city during my middle and high
schools and a junior college.

(3) Matsumoto-City has the following sister cities in ovedrseas;

> (a) Langfang City (China)
>
> (b) Kathmandu (Nepal)
>
> (c) Salt Lake City (USA)
>
> (d) Grindelwald (Switzerland)
> html>

(4) You may visit the following web sites;

> (a) Matsumoto City Government Site
> <http://welcome.city.matsumoto.nagano.jp/modules/contents0/>
>
> (b) Kamikochi
> <http://welcome.city.matsumoto.nagano.jp/contents03+index.id+8.htm>
>
>> This is a few hours drive from Matsumoto and very similar to Grono Altai
>> region with high mountains — the so-called Japan Alps.
>
> (c) Utsukushigahara
> <http://welcome.city.matsumoto.nagano.jp/contents03+index.id+4.htm>

(5) As you see in their web site, you will find that both have similarities
in the midst of beautiful mountains — though Matsumoto does not have any
World Heritage Sites in contrast to that Gorno-Altai has 5 of them.

It is also a center of Nagano Prefecture, an industrial city with many
higher educational and healthcare institutions — incidentally, it has
Shinshu University -- “Shinshu” is the name of the Nagano prefecture in
ancient time. The medical school of the university still diagnoses X-ray
photos of thyroid cancer children of Chornobyl accident many years ago,
which are sent via satellite.

> BTW, you may recall the Nagano Winter Olympic a few years ago which was held
> in those mountains, and which opening and closing ceremonies were organized by
> my high school classmate with his close friend, Mr. Seiji Ozawa, the world
> famous conductor who played Beethoven’s 9th symphony chorus with singing
> groups scattered around the world.

Dear Mr. Iinuma:

(6) We may ask your liaison for this project — I recall that you were sent
to Salt Lake City for student exchange once before.

> BTW, Marina’s city, Novosibirsk, has a sister-city relation with Sapporo in
> Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan.

Dear Marina:

(7) After this, you may consider Bozeman, Montana in the USA
<http://www.bozeman.net/> — my second home town where I went to Montana
State University for getting my Master of Science degree in Chemical
Engineering in the middle of 1950s.

It is also located in the middle of mountains and nearby the famous
Yellowstone National Park
<http://wyomingtourism.org/cms/d/yellowstone_national_park.php>.

(8) Pls let me know if the above would meet with your desire, and possible
way how to consummate the sister-city relations.

Best, Tak
