Dear Bert:

(1) Many thanks for your msgs (ATTACHMENT I and III).

Very sorry for my belated reply.

(2) I am taking the liberty of distributing your following very interesting
and excellent paper to our list members;

> New Education for the 21st Century
> How to build sustainable networks and communities
> <http://tinyurl.com/ynk7d8>
>
>> On the other hand, pls visit my following paper in Polish at your leisure
>> time;
>>
>>> "Globalization of Higher Education" -- Paper by Takeshi Utsumi, Parker
>>> Rossman, and Aristide H. Esser, in Projektowanie I Systemy: Zagadnienia
>>> metodologiczne dyscyplin praktycznych tom XII, (translated from English to
>>> Polish by Kazimierz Frieskie), 1990
>>> <http://tinyurl.com/25f783>
>>
>> Pls convey my best personal regards to Prof. Frieskie when you will have a
>> chance to meet — BYW, I have never met him and do not know where he lives. I
>> greatly appreciated his translation of our paper into Polish.

(3) You mentioned in your paper as;

> “One important finding: all real innovation comes from small groups at the
> edge of a system. Talking about education, we should not look at the
> mainstream, well established educational organizations if we want fundamental
> innovation and change. Deep change will come from the edge, from small,
> flexible, innovative groups at the fringe of the educational system.”

This reminds me Margaret Mead’s famous word on the change of the world
<http://tinyurl.com/29be9r>.

As any infant has to change his/her clothes to one size larger as they grow,
our world has to grow, i.e., change its social system as its technology
advances.

> BTW, this contradicts with Confucianism of Japan which tries to preserve
> traditional culture even with subservient obedience. This is a main reason
> why Japan cannot be at the forefront of science and technology.

(4) You also mentioned in it as;

> “The learning strategy and methodology is focused on ‘learning to think in and
> with models’. Model thinking stresses the connection to the whole instead of
> concentrating on the parts. And model thinking enables us to combine - and
> gives us insight into - many facts. Last but not least model thinking helps in
> creating and focusing on a next level of thinking, Albert Einstein refers to
> when he says: “The problems that exist in the world today cannot be solved by
> the level of thinking that created them.” “

Dear Kaisa:

Bert’s paper may indicate the future direction of industrial society with
“gift economy,” “Fourth Sector” or “for-benefit sector” which terms Bert
coined. This may then be some extension of your thesis developed in your
paper. Incidentally, how is your new book is coming along, as extending
your theses into future? When will it be available in English?

Dear Bert:

(9) As you suggest, you may create GUS/Poland.

Pls visit the following write-up, in which I outlined how to proceed your
project;

Concept Paper
on
the Creation of Global University System (GUS)
in Ghana and later in Countries of ECOWAS
http://tinyurl.com/3a2erg

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
<http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/int-ecws.html>

This was prepared for the meeting of the Director-General of Kofi Annan
Center in Ghana with the high official of the ECOWAS — with my hope that
each of the ECOWAS would create their GUS.

(10) You may then start constructing a concept paper (about 4 page long) for
funding inquiry;

> (a) to make my fact-finding and assessment trip,
> (b) to organize a planning workshop.
>
You can find their samples at our web site <http://tinyurl.com/b475v>,
particularly in the Section V-A-4 (GUS/Sierra Leone) and Section V-C-1
(GUS/Siberia/Russia).

Pls send me your first draft so that we can work on it together.

(11) Should you plan to apply for the Request For Proposal (RFP) of the
European Commission, pls visit the following previous list distribution,

> (02/08/07) Request For Proposals (RFP) of European Commission for ICT projects
> http://tinyurl.com/yrmgeo

> and select an appropriate program in;
>
> Work Programme 2007-08 (124 pages)
> <ict-wp-2007-08_en.pdf><http://tinyurl.com/39ur3x>

You may also be able to raise some fund from the Japanese government as
Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology (Polsko-Japonska Wyzsza
Szkola Technik Komputerowych) in Warsaw did.

(12) As establishing GUS/Poland, you may have more leverage to promote your
unique business school courses for fostering entrepreneurship. I know that
entrepreneurs are very important as the cutting-edge for exploring and
changing the world.

Dear Jaroslaw:

(13) It was certainly my great pleasure to have met with you at Prof. Eli
Noam’s seminar on International Network at Columbia University in the
afternoon of 2/14th.

I was glad to know that you came from Poland. You may then be interested in
joining Bert’s project of creating GUS/Poland.

Keep in touch.
