W. R. (Bill) Klemm, D.V.M., Ph.D. <wklemm@cvm.tamu.edu>

Dear Jan:

(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT II and IV) -- very glad to hear
from you again, too.

(2) I concur with Tapio=B9s statement in (ATTACHMENT III), i.e., the use of
materials appeared in our forthcoming book =B3Global Peace Through The Global
University System=B2 can be made free of charge only for non-profit public
service purposes.

However, any distribution of the materials should accompany with its
original source statement as stated at the top of the first page of each
chapter as;

> In Global Peace Through The Global University System
> 2003 Ed. by T. Varis, T. Utsumi, and W. R. Klemm
> University of Tampere, H=E4meenlinna, Finland

BTW, this was made by Bill Klemm, our co-editor, so that whenever anyone
make copy of any chapter, this statement will automatically appear in the
copies.

(3) Any use of the materials for other purposes than the non-profit public
services has to obtain a permission from Tapio who, in turn, obtains the
permission of the author(s) of the desired chapter(s).

(4) About your question #1:

All chapters will be kept at our web site;
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20Universit=
y
%20System/UNESCO_Chair_Book/Bk_outline-D13.html

However, as said in our previous list, this is an initial attempt to
construct portal of our GUS. As soon as we establish our GUS headquarters
at the University of Tempere firmly, we will set up its own web site. In
such an event, most of those materials will be shifted to it, but its
transition will be secured to be smooth, and will publicly be notified.

When all chapters will be available at the web sire, you can download all o=
f
them free of charge =8B to save E$25, i.e., a poor-man=B9s approach. However,
it would take a long time, and some of large files for animations (e.g., 10=
0
or 200 MB) can only be available on a CD which comes with the book.
Therefore, the best way would be to purchase a copy of the book from the
University of Tampere =8B its order form can be downloaded at the bottom of
the page of the web mentioned above.

Dear Angela:

(5) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I) with kind words.

Yes, we are proud of having world renowned, prominent and capable authors.

We are very delighted to hear that you and Jan will make a very good use of
their contributed papers for the benefit of Mozambican professional on
e-learning.

As you might have noticed in Dani Nabudere=B9s paper, we start working to
create GUS/Uganda, -- and we are also working with the University of Malawi
to create GUS/Malawi =8B both with the Japanese government funds.

Keep in touch.

Best, Tak

Dear Jan,

Thank you for your inquiry. I am very pleased to note that you find our
work useful and proud of the excellent contributions that we can offer.
Given the high position of many of the authors I have had to be very strict
in allowing any use of the material separate from the forthcoming book and
prior its publication because some of the authors do not allow such use.
Your choice of advertising our book is right and in any case all of the
articles must include a note of the original source anyway. Since this is a
policy issue from our side I have to discuss my co-editors Utsumi and Klemm
before making the final decision. Your proposal, however, seems acceptable
to me personally since it is also promoting our ideas in the right spirit.
The book should be available within weeks from now so that once it is
physically out I feel more secure of other arrangements like the URL. We
definitely are interested to work with you in this field.

Sincerely,

Tapio Varis=20

Dear Tapio (cc. Tak),

I hope this finds you well.

I have been following with interest the various contributions you have been
receiving for the forthcoming book on =B3Global Peace Through The Global
University System.=B2 Some of the chapters, e.g. by Dani W. Nabudere, Brenda
Gourley, and the one that just got distributed by Majid Tehranian, look lik=
e
interesting material for discussion among the approximately 50 Mozambican
professionals who will be trained over a nine-month period, starting on 1
September 2003, to become the future cadre for Mozambique=B9s National
Institute for Distance Education (INED). I am the lead trainer on the
project. The project is being implemented by the Commonwealth of Learning
(COL). The South African Institute for Distance Education participates in
the consortium as well.

Two questions come up:

1) Will these chapters, which can currently be accessed through
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20Universit=
y
%20System/UNESCO_Chair_Book/, remain available on the GLOSAS/GUS Web site,
perhaps under a different URL, after the book has appeared in print? If so,
it will allow us to ask students to explore them and identify for themselve=
s
such papers that they would like to select for further discussion.

2) Can we be authorized to run relevant selected papers off the
photocopier in a total sufficient for individual distribution to all the
above trainees for the purpose of contributing to their personal and
professional development?

By copy of this message to the Project Director at the COL, Angela Kwan, I
am bringing your forthcoming book to her attention. As it is scheduled to
appear in print soon, I do so with the intention that it be included in the
mini-library we are currently conceiving to support the training effort and
the continued professional development in the context of INED beyond the
training period. (Angela: An order form is attached to this message. You ca=
n
see an outline of the book at
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20Universit=

I look forward to your kind response.
