grid computing network) through distributed computer simulation mode may be
made from rural/remote areas of developing countries (e.g., Amazon, Havana,

This is a computerized gaming/simulation to help decision makers construct =
a
globally distributed decision-support system for positive sum/win-win
alternatives to conflict and war.
The idea involves interconnecting experts of our GUS affiliated universitie=

in many countries via global Internet to collaborate in the discovering of
new solutions for world crises, such as the deteriorating ecology of our
globe, and to explore new alternatives for a world order capable of
addressing the problems and opportunities of an interdependent globe. (An
example of its use could be testing the validity of the Bush
administration=E2=80=99s rejection of the Kyoto Protocol on global environmental
protection.)

Gaming/simulation is the best tool we have for understanding the world's
problems and the solutions we propose for them. The understanding gained

They could collaboratively exercise systems analysis, policy-making, crisis

human body, chemical and pharmacological molecular analysis, DNA analysis,

IBM Unveils Computing-Grid Products for Industries
=E2=80=94 ARMONK, N.Y. (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. <IBM.N> =

Monday unveiled 10 powerful "grid computing" products, its biggest push yet
to drive the nascent computing trend into big business.
Grid computing is a cluster of servers and computers linked through the
Internet. The idea is to link the computers -- potentially in the millions
-- to make processing power available on demand, rather like water or
electricity is in developed countries, boosting computational power while
cutting costs.
IBM said the 10 new grid computing products targeted the financial, life
sciences, automotive and aerospace industries, as well as the government. T=
o
date, grid computing, known also as distributed computing, has been most
popular in the research community.
With the announcement, IBM said it is angling to push the adoption of grid
computing in the corporate world. IBM is also seeking to recreate the
success of its adoption and endorsement of the freely available Linux
operating system several years ago with an aggressive backing of grid
computing in myriad industries, a spokesman said.
Specifically, Armonk, New York-based IBM said it was making available
analytics and information technology grids for the financial services
industry, analytics and data access grids for life sciences, engineering
design and design collaboration grids for automotive and aerospace, and a
data grid for government.
"It's the same sort of full-court press we did with Linux that we're now
doing with grid computing," IBM spokesman James Larkin said.
"These are not products that are designed for research labs," Larkin said.
"This is so that Ford can build cars faster, so Pfizer can get drugs out
faster."
The company said it will offer grid workshops to teach companies how to mak=
e
use of the resource.
IBM also said it has signed partnerships with five companies that develop
software for grid computing -- Platform Computing, DataSynapse, Avaki,
Entropia and United Devices -- to roll out platforms to the industries it i=
s
targeting.
IBM has said the still-nascent field of grid computing is one of its key
computing strategies under Chief Executive Sam Palmisano. It has forecast
numerous commercial uses for the technology, allowing corporations to tap
into off-site computing power.
That could ultimately increase computing power while decreasing the cost of
computing, IBM has said.
Grid computing is based on a still-developing open source software called
Globus, which has a free source of programming code.

IBM.N> on Monday unveiled 10 powerful "grid computing" products=
, its biggest push yet to drive the nascent computing trend into big busines=

Grid computing is a cluster of servers and computers linked through the Int=
ernet. The idea is to link the computers -- potentially in the millions -- t=
o make processing power available on demand, rather like water or electricit=
y is in developed countries, boosting computational power while cutting cost=
s.<BR>
<BR>
IBM said the 10 new grid computing products targeted the financial, life sc=
iences, automotive and aerospace industries, as well as the government. To d=
ate, grid computing, known also as distributed computing, has been most popu=
lar in the research community.<BR>
<BR>
With the announcement, IBM said it is angling to push the adoption of grid =
computing in the corporate world. IBM is also seeking to recreate the succes=
s of its adoption and endorsement of the freely available Linux operating sy=
stem several years ago with an aggressive backing of grid computing in myria=
d industries, a spokesman said.<BR>

Specifically, Armonk, New York-based IBM said it was making available analy=
tics and information technology grids for the financial services industry, a=
nalytics and data access grids for life sciences, engineering design and des=
ign collaboration grids for automotive and aerospace, and a data grid for go=
vernment.<BR>
<BR>
"It's the same sort of full-court press we did with Linux that we're n=
ow doing with grid computing," IBM spokesman James Larkin said.<BR>
<BR>
"These are not products that are designed for research labs," Lar=
kin said. "This is so that Ford can build cars faster, so Pfizer can ge=
t drugs out faster."<BR>
<BR>
The company said it will offer grid workshops to teach companies how to mak=
e use of the resource.<BR>
<BR>
IBM also said it has signed partnerships with five companies that develop s=
oftware for grid computing -- Platform Computing, DataSynapse, Avaki, Entrop=
ia and United Devices -- to roll out platforms to the industries it is targe=
ting.<BR>

IBM has said the still-nascent field of grid computing is one of its key co=
mputing strategies under Chief Executive Sam Palmisano. It has forecast nume=
rous commercial uses for the technology, allowing corporations to tap into o=
ff-site computing power.<BR>

That could ultimately increase computing power while decreasing the cost of=
computing, IBM has said.<BR>

Grid computing is based on a still-developing open source software called G=
