election before.

We are very delighted with your becoming the first elected foreign-born
Member of the House of Councilors of Japanese parliament (equivalent to the
Senator of the U.S.), as cracking open inclusive Japanese political system.
You are certainly a remarkable person, indeed, and our wholehearted
congratulations to you!!

(5) Our Global University System (GUS) project, headed by Tapio Varis as it=

Acting President, will combine (1) the Japanese government's Official
Development Assistance (ODA) funds and (2) electronic equipment (computer,
tranceiver, dish antenna, etc.) of Japan with (a) the Internet technology
and (b) content development of the north America to help underserved people
in rural and remote areas of developing countries.

Dear Tak and Paul,

At our Tampere eGlobal Conference yesterday I spoke with Mr. Marutei
Tsurunen, the first elected foreign-born Member of the House of Councilors
of Japan - his original name was Martti Turunen. He was born in Finland
(lived here till the age of 27), moved to Japan and became a Japanese
citizen and now in the Parliament (http://www.tsurunen.net)  Very
interesting and influential politician dealing with Japanese development
aid, for instance. Professor Yasuko Minoura gave an excellent presentation
on media education. There were many leaders of Fujitsu and Nokia also. Mr.
Pekka Tarjanne was chairing many sessions and I spoke at length with him.
Due to holidays I can proceed with my Chair only in September but I will
start planning next June meeting and need your help when sending
applications.
