Dear Bryan:

(1) Many thanks for your prompt response (APPENDIX I) to my last list
distribution =B3(05/11/02) Preliminary info about Manaus Community Developmen=
t
Network Project for GRF (Revised)=B2 which can now be retrieved at
http://www.friends-partners.org/pipermail/gu-l/2002q2/000121.html

(2) I am very delighted to hear that you may soon teach English at a school
in Manaus, Amazon, Brazil.

(3) We would be very appreciative if you can work with us on the following
English as a Second Language (ESL) project.

Pls visit =B3Corporate Training with English as a Second Language (ESL)
Program=B2
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manaus%20Workshop/InfoDev_Applicatio=
n
/InfoDev_Prop_Final_Web/Appendices/Appendix-IX_Joint_Programs/Joint_Prog_an=
d
_Proj_(WORD).htm

This is Section 4 of APPENDIX IX: =B3Prospective Joint Programs and Projects=B2
in "Community Development with E-Learning and E-Healthcare in Amazon,
Brazil" -- Grant application submitted to the InfoDev of the World Bank
(1/25/02).
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manaus%20Workshop/InfoDev_Applicatio=
n
/InfoDev_Prop_Final_Web/Main_Proposal.htm

> This application was unfortunately declined as informed to you before.

(4) Pls contact Alex if the English Department of his University of Amazoni=
a
could work with you.

(5) Our Manaus Community Development Network Project will connect K-12
schools in underserved areas of the City of Manaus when we will obtain the
Grass Root Fund from the Japanese Consulate in Manaus, with the use of
broadband (10 Mbps) wireless Internet.

As described in our ESL Program mentioned above, we plan to use this
wireless approach so that students can roam around within the coverage of
its antenna =8B as the City University of Hong Kong and the University of
Milan are already doing.

> Incidentally, my iBook laptop can also be used with its same wireless
> technology.
>=20
> David Levy of McGill University in Montreal has already received Apple=B9s
> strong interest in our ESL project.
>=20
(6) As mentioned in the ESL project description, David has an excellent
content with his previous experience as having taught 20 million students i=
n
5 years via terrestrial radio in the Mainland China.

He has also already solicited the interest of SONY Corporation in New York =
=8B
there are many SONY factories in Manaus.

(7) When the broadband wireless Internet will be available, we also would
like to utilize Steven Donahue=B9s web teaching pronunciation program which
was also briefly described in our ESL project mentioned above.

> Incidentally, he already has a program of teaching Portuguese pronunciati=
on,
> too.
>=20
(8) The team members of this project could then be;

> (a) Brazil side:
> * You in Manaus, and
> * English Department people of the University of Amazona
>=20
> (b) North American side:
> * David Levy, and
> * Steven Donahue

(9) I think that this ESL program could be very suitable first use of the
broadband wireless Internet of our Manaus Community Development Network
project.

(10) Looking forward to receiving your prompt response so that we may
include a brief description of this approach into our application to the
Grass Root Fund of the Japanese Consulate in Manaus.

Best, Tak
