Dear colleagues,

On Monday the 4th March I had several talks with the representatives of
Catalunyan Open University (Univesitat Oberta de Catalunya) in Barcelona on
our possible cooperation and the Unesco Chair on global e-learning and GUS.
Rector Gabriel Ferrate i Pascual was very positive and supportive to our
plans and welcomed me there saying that in UOC we have friends. Vicerector
Francisco Rubio Royo and Emma Kiselyova (international relations) expressed
their concrete interest in cooperation and they are studying the UnescoTwin
application forms, GLOSAS (and GUS) sources etc. We found out that it is
desirable to promote a similar Unesco Chair at UOC although it does not
solve the financial side of the Chair yet. UOC has active relations to
Latin America and Africa - in fact there was an official Cuban delegation
visiting UOC during the same day. Director Ramon O=B4Callaghan introduced me
to the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute which, among other things,
deals with eLearning and is already linked to Tampere University and
eTampere projects. I will see him again on Thursday in Berlin at the
"Literacy Summit" where also Paul Lefrere from the UK Open University will
be present. I also discussed possibilities of EC research cooperation in
the field of media and digital literacy.
