Dear Maggie:
=============
(1) Many thanks for your msg with kind words!!
Sorry for my belated reply since I was in Taipei and Japan from 8/10
to 9/1st.
I am very much delighted to hear of your kind offer.
I took the liberty of admitting you into our list -- since you were
not in our list, you must have reading our list distribution from your
friend.
Pls send me your CV with your next msg.
(2) As for publicity:
Pls retrieve "Terrible experiences with hacker and virus" at
http://www.friends-partners.org/pipermail/gu-l/2001q1/date.html
As mentioned in Item (3) in it, we are now soliciting volunteer editor
for our GLOSAS NEWS. After this list distribution, I received two
volunteers, Steve and Ed.
Anton initiated this and has registered to Canadian Library of
Congress.
Tina then spend her considerable time for web archiving the
previous publications.
I wonder if you would be interested to be the managing editor of our
GLOSAS NEWS. Your job may be to excerpt major activities out of our
list distributions and cooperate with Steve and Ed to refine them to
put into final format. I will then distribute it to our list members.
Although I distribute our daily progresses to them, many of them wish
to receive just only their summary periodically.
(3) As for fund raising:
I am very happy to hear of your help on this since we are now in the
midst of this activity for many projects/workshops.
Pls retrieve
(a) "Travel Grant Application Mini-Workshop for Pilot Project of
Global University System in the Philippines for Tele-learning
and Tele-Health/Tele-Medicine" at
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manila%20Workshop/NSF_appl_for_Manila.html
(b) "PROPOSAL FORM" at
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manaus%20Workshop/InfoDev_Application/infoDev_Proposa_%20v_4.html
This is our grant application for the InfoDev of the World Bank.
Pls also retrieve
(i) Global University System (GUS)/Synopsis at
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20University%20System/Synopsis_6-30-01.html
(ii) GLOSAS/USA
"GLOSAS Projects for Closing Digital Divide"
http://www.iicom.org/intermedia/April2001/ -- Click "First
Paper" in this web site for the published version of the above
paper in InterMedia
As stated at
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20University%20System/Reference_web_sites.html
This is a summary of the current status of our GUS, GBI and GSTF
projects.
I would like to discuss with you on this fund raising project further,
e.g., to which to approach and how to approach, etc.
(4) Tapio is now incorporating GUS in Finland, and will obtain an
endorsement from Finnish National UNESCO Committee this week for his
becoming a member of the UNESCO/UNITWIN Network program. This will,
in a sense, be the headquarters of GUS which will have counterpart
UNESCO/UNITWIN Chairs at our regional/country GUSs which will then
form a general assembly of our GUS.
Looking forward to receiving your response soon,
Best, Tak

Dr. Utsumi,
It is with great interest that I have been reading about the GUS efforts
through March 2001. I am particularly interested in your mission and
surprised by the amount of work GUS has done and what has been accomplished.
Your organizations efforts are excellent and I am surprised that so few
people (myself included until recently) knew of your efforts.
>From recent email transcripts among your partners, it appears that you are
continuing to receive some funding and support through Finland. Are you
currently working on other funding resources since the U.S. funding ended? I
would think this would be a great area for many grants.
I would very much like to be a part of any continuing efforts in this regard,
as distance education and world wide accessibility are near to my heart. If
there is anything I can do to assist in grant writing, publishing
information, presenting, I would like to help. Your mission and goals match
with my ideals for distance learning, and perhaps I can offer my partnership
in your continuing efforts.
