Dear Prof. Yamasawa:
====================
(1) Many thanks for your prompt reply.
(2) It was my great pleasure to have admitted Dr. Yamamoto into our list.
Dear Dr. Yamamoto:
==================
We are very glad to have you in our list. Pls visit our web
site which URL is listed in my e-signature below, and click
"Current Reference Websites" at the top of its home page to find
subsequent web sites of our various projects.
(3) Many thanks also for your contact with him.
It would be convenient for me if I can visit him in the afternoon of
8/22nd (Wednesday).
Should he wish to have my talk about our project to his people, pls
let me know, since in such a case, I would need some equipment. They
are a projector for my old Mac laptop, and in case when it is
incompatible, an overhead slide projector, etc.
(4) Can you join us at his office?
I would like to hear of your progress on the Shinshu-Net, the micro-wave
(1.5 Mbps) Internet network which connects several branch
campuses across mountains in our home providence, Nagano Prefecture.
As you said at our Tampere event in August, 1999, has it been upgraded
to 55 Mbps?
As you know, we are advocating Global Broadband Internet (GBI) -- see
its diagram in the web site mentioned above. As you see in it, we are
emulating your Shinshu-Net. There are some projects to emulate your
Shinshu-Net, e.g., in the Philippines, Manaus/Amazon/Brazil,
Milan/Italy, etc., etc.
In order for our colleagues in those regions/localities to see its
actual installation and operation of your Shinshu-Net, I have been
thinking to have our workshop in Shinshu, -- or, at least, to visit
its net in, say, Matsumoto or Nagano Cities, during our workshop in
Japan if possible, next year.
They may visit your facility, antenna at Utsukushigawara,
medical school in Matsumoto on their operation of processing X-ray
photos of children in Chenobyl, Ukraine, and also visiting
hot spring at the foot of Japan Alps in Kamikouchi -- my
classmate at Matsumoto Fukashi high school is the owner of
Nishi-itoya Hotel so that they may dip into a hot spring there,
too!!
As you may know, following person was my professor more than a half
century ago at your university;
Professor Hajime Matsuzaki
1-4-1 Jyoto Higashi
Mtsumoto-shi, Naganoken
Japan
+81-263-33-3375
Last May when I visited him, he realized the importance of our global
e-learning project and indicated his willingness to introduce me to
the president of your university.
At that time, I also visited your Nagano city and nearby Toshou
-daiji where I could enjoy beautiful paintings by Utamaro, the
world famous Ukiyoe painter.
If you can come to Dr. Yamamoto's office on 8/22nd, we may be able to
discuss these matters further.
Dear Dr. Yamamoto:
==================
(5) It would also be my great privilege to accept your kind invitation for
a dinner, -- if possible, right after my visit on 8/22nd.
(6) BTW, I would greatly appreciate it if you can kindly inform of my
visit to you to Mr. Oishi and Mr. Tachibana of your Hitachi.
Last May, I was introduced to them through Mr. Shoyama, the president
of your Hitachi and our alumni whom was also introduced by Dr.
Yoshiyuki Naito, current President of the Tokyo Institute of
Technology (your and mine alma mater), whom was introduced by Dr.
Yasuharu Suematsu, former president of our school.
(7) We proposed them our English as a Second Language (ESL) program which
draft proposal can be retrieved at
http://www.friends-
partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20University%20System/ESL%20Program/ESL_Program_Proposal.html
(8) The goal of this program is to improve speaking capability of would-be
decision makers of Japanese organizations with the use of;
(a) well proven content -- David Levy's very successful teaching of
20 million Chinese in 5 years via terrestrial radio wave,
(b) advanced broadband wireless Internet, -- P.H.S of DoCoMo or soon
G3 wireless phone unit,
(c) Japanese made notebook, -- e.g, SONY's PictureBook, etc.,
(d) web-teaching of pronunciation with audio analyzer, -- visit
Steven's web,
(e) multimedia e-book, -- visit Bob's web,
(f) combined use of DVD with web, -- technology developed by
Sandra's Pioneer, etc.
(9) The expected benefits of this program are;
(a) its new delivery system can be used for not only English, but
also any other languages, e.g., Japanese, and also any subject
matters such as your engineering, etc.,
(b) the system can individualize learning, at anywhere, anytime and
at any pace,
(c) shift from approach of replicating classroom by expensive analog
and digital videoconferencing via ISDN or satellite to
inexpensive web-based learning via broadband Internet,
(d) individualization of learning, thus eliminating the so-called
"Gaku-reki" (hierarchy of elite schools), i.e., democratization
of educational system.
I look forward to receiving your responses.
Best, Tak
