Dear Yousuf:
============
(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I).
I admitted you into our list.
(2) ATTACHMENT II tells briefly about our planned telemedicine
demonstration during our mini-workshop in Manila.
Dear Rashid and Daniel:
=======================
We would like to rely on you again as you did during our
Manaus/Amazon/Brazil workshop. I will inform you more when
everything will be firmed up.
(3) As for the procedures, we strongly commend for your people to firstly
hold a face-to-face workshop to kick-off a project of deploying
broadband Internet which can be used for telemedicine -- see its
schematic diagram at;
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Tampere_Conference/Global_Broadband_Internet/Global_Broadband_Diagram.html
(4) We are start working on the possible implementation of a broadband
wireless Internet in Manila -- hopefully it may be used for our
telemedicine demo.
(5) This video may be streamed via the open Internet around the world
through a host at Houston Community College so that, if you have 56
Kbps modem, you may also be able to view it in Bangladesh.
You may test it with the current system at
http://tc1.hccs.cc.tx.us/wpgs/tca/LiveB7.htm
However, you will need a current version of REAL PLAYER,
free of course, from http://www.realaudio.com.
Roger Boston's msg said;
We have arranged that educational programming content be
transmitted 24 hours / day through this URL, a "live feed" from
our educational Cable Television Station here in Houston, on an
exploratory basis, to demonstrate what "is possible" in this
mode of electronic outreach."
Roger:
======
It came out very nicely with my 56 Kbps modem.
Congratulations!!
(6) Tomorrow afternoon, I will visit Riaz Hamidullah at the Bangladesh
Mission to the UN to talk about more about our Global University
System (GUS) project (ATTACHMENT III).
Dear Larry:
===========
You may join in our mtg (instead of our meeting at Chemists Club
in Manhattan this afternoon), since you are the one who
introduced our project to Riaz. It is at his office at 3:00 pm
tomorrow. Pls let me know.
(7) Tomorrow, I will ask if Riaz would be interested in helping your
people in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for holding the workshop.
Dear John Dekkers:
==================
(8) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT IV).
I will inform you when Bangladesh people decide to have a workshop --
pls feel free to convey our info to your colleagues at the Open
University in Dhaka.
Best, Tak

Dear Dr. Bhuiyan:
(1) Many thanks for your interest in our projects.
(2) Pls visit
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Tampere_Conference/Final_Report/Compilation_of_comments/10089_Shin_Takuma/10089_Shin_Takuma.html
This telemedicine demonstration was done duriing our International
Workshop and Conference on the "Emerging Global Electronic
Distance Learning (EGEDL/'99)" at the University of Tampere,
Finland in August, 1999.
(3) Pls visit our web which URL is listed in my e-signature below, and

real patient.
(5) We plan to have a similar workshop and telemedicine demo at St.
Luke's College of Medicine in Manila, the Philippines in the near

Telepresence Demonstration
during
Manila Mini-Workshop
(Excerpt from
Travel Grant Application to the US NSF)
The telepresence demonstration with echocardiography will be performed at the
St. Luke's College of Medicine by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,
MI, and Georgetown University of Washington, D.C., though the latter is still
tentative. For the former, the echocardiograph signal of a patient on a
tread mill in Manila will be sent to Michigan for diagnosis, as we did during
our Tampere event in Finland with Columbia University in New York City in
August, 1999. However, this time, the 3D image of his heart will also be
constructed as an upgraded feature. Both will be disseminated in real-time
to the participants around the world via ISDN and Internet through the PUP-ICTC facilities where about 100 participants will also view this activity.
This is a follow-up to our similar demonstration during our Manaus, Amazon,
Brazil event on May 31 to June 2, 2000 -- see
<http://lab-tiama.pop-am.rnp.br/cca/workshop/English/wksp_E.htm> and
<http://tc1.hccs.cc.tx.us/hist/yr00/brazil/>.
This demonstration is also to open the eyes of decision-makers for the value
of broadband Internet so that they will install it in remote/rural areas of
developing countries at their earliest possible time.
The global broadband Internet infrastructure also provides exciting
opportunities for distance/distributed learning. Workshop presentations will
explore applications, as well as technical strengths and weaknesses for
sharing education, information, and resources throughout the world.
Discussions are well underway among conference participants regarding the
development and dissemination of education for engineers, healthcare
providers, emergency medical professionals, and primary and secondary
teachers.

ATTACHMENT III
Excerpt from Larry Gell's msg of of 12/5/00
He [Riaz Hamidullah] is a Second Secretary and extremely bright! And, he is a
close personal friend who you can rely on. Please contact him directly to see
how you might help Bangladesh. Let me know if I can assist in any way.
========================================
His [Riaz Hamidullah] msg to Larry;
You remember, last when I met you at the Viennese cafe, you mentioned of your
idea to have an on-line university or something similar in Bangladesh. Could
you please tell me in detail ? I have a very responsible and imaginative
gentleman interested - who I can assure, you would enjoy working - at Dhaka
end. In fact, he is known out there in the top brass of the world of scouting
as well. Not to mention of his business acumen and foresight!
Once I hear from you, I'll clarify a few points, if needed, to explain the
same to him and then see its practicality in Bangladesh. I am appending a
copy of this message to him as well.

Dear Tak,
I am sure that you will recall our meeting in Fiji over a year ago.
I noticed in a recent message, reference to a Bangladesh Virtual University.
As you are aware, I have a very close association with the Bangladesh Open
University and in fact was there 3 weeks ago on a visit. What are the
developments being considered?
I would be pleased to have input.
Best wishes to you and your family
Regards
John
