thanks Gunther,

  for pointing out the nuts & bolts of costing, for those of us who did only
the B.A. - but not the B.Com!

  Another fpspacer emailed me off-forum with extra points. He thought
that these 4 U.S. scramjets were in fact built under a 2002 fixed-cost
contract.  So once they had been "sized", that was that, as immutable as the
laws of the Medes & the Persians.

  So it seems that the five decade on-again, off-again, episodic gestation
of the scramjet continues. We can only hope that we live long enough to
celebrate the maiden flight of the first UAV flying testbed which has
turbo-scramjet propulsion, plus an undercarriage.
