Absolutely.  If we're going to be serious about this human spaceflight thing, we need to get serious about the technologies needed to support it -- notably including long-term autonomous life support.  If ISS can make a significant contribution, it's certainly in that area.

Finding out that a water recycler can get kidney stones (and, hopefully, how to prevent that) certainly should count as a significant accomplishment.
