The list at the end isn't entirely helpful-it looks to me as if it mixes up everything, from peer reviewed journals like PRL, GRL and PNAS to theses, reports conference papers and articles in Sky and Telescope.
Thanks Nick, for your research. So it appears that SOME of the ISS science has appeared in three peer-reviewed journals. Theses that were passed for graduation can have the same said of them.
At my home university in South Africa, the University of the Western Cape, the rules for peer-review have been steadily tighted up over the years. Even for in-house publications, our Research Dean insists that
1. we have external peer reviewers;
2. "external" means they have not worked for or at UWC for at least seven years, however briefly;
3. you may not use externals that you have externaled for, to block back-scratching;
4. All this must be explicitly stated in the editor's preface or introduction.
But of course each institution has its own variations. - Keitb
