FPSpacers,

A couple of questions for our American spaceflight technical historians:

The Almaz Return Vehicle was the first manned spacecraft designed to be reusable and had that brilliant design for the hatch in the heatshield.

Q: When the Gemini 2 was refitted with a heat-sheild which had a hatch in it, what was the basis for this decision? Specifically, was there any indication that the soviets were working on a "hatch-in-heatshield" vehicle?

And the second Q: What was the first American reentry flight computer equal to or greater than the Argon-12s designed for the Almaz RRV?

Specifications for the Argon-12s can be found at:

Best Regards,

David L. Rickman
