Thanks, Mal :

Th e science paper is interesting, but the context and the derivative articles are worse 'space history' than ever. People seem to want to rewrite past history based on current political or ideological myths. Happens to all of us, that's why we thrash stuff out among friendly critics first. Unlike these very sloppy -- but politically correct -- propaganda pieces.\\Jim O

Subject: [FPSPACE] Women in Space Program (early 60's)

Hi all - I'm a lurker on this list and although I haven't posted in the past, I do find it one of the more interesting, as well as informative, email groups on the web -- at least when it comes to the space program(s). I just happened to run into this article and thought most of you would find it very informative and enjoyable to read. I know many of you are aware of this topic (such as James Oberg, whom I think even wrote about it, or at least remarked about it, in the past) of women being trained as astronauts (i.e. Women in Space Program ) in the early '60's, but for those of you who may not be too familiar with this part of NASA's early history, I thought may appreciate a heads up regarding this subject! Women in Space Program ( http://www.switched.com/2009/10/14/nasas-forgotten-female-frontierswomen/?icid=main ) A forgotten moment in physiology: the Lovelace Woman in Space Program (1960--1962) ( http://advan.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/33/3/157 ) also: Right Stuff, Wrong Sex: NASA's Lost Female Astronauts ( http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/10/mercury-13/ ) Sorry if the 'hot' links don't work properly; however, the URLs in parentheses do work. I'm working with a new email program and I'm still trying to get settled in with it. Best to all, Mal
