> Another interesting note: the BBC article at

> that Feoktistov was the only flown Soviet cosmonaut
> who was not a member of the Communist party.

On the other hand, according to ITAR-TASS:

"He became a Hero of the Soviet Union in 1964 and
a holder of the Lenin Order (1964), two first-degree
Orders of the Great Patriotic War (1965 and 1975),
two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor (1957 and 1961)
and the Badge of Honor (1974). He also won the Lenin
Award in 1966 and the State Award in 1976."

Those of us who enjoyed the privilege of participating
in the FPSPACE 96 workshop were fortunate to meet with
Konstantin Petrovich Feoktistov, professor at Bauman
 Technical University at the time.

His genuine concern for the safety of cosmonauts was
a pleasant reminder that what made the Soviet toll of
life in space comparable to that of the US, was the
result of strong dedication to safety shown by him and
fellow engineers. - So much more hurtful must it have
been for Konstantin Feoktistov in 1967, when his 1964
flight companion Vladimir Komarov perished in space.
