A Japanese government panel on cutting wasteful spending sought Tuesday
to scrap a new rocket development project worth hundreds of billions of
yen as part of its intensive efforts to identify waste in ministries’
budget requests for fiscal 2010 starting in April 2010. On the fifth
day Tuesday of the panel’s nine-day, open-door scrutiny of ministries’
budget requests, which started Wednesday last week, the Government
Revitalization Unit screened 26 projects in three working groups.
