JimO.

I have a series of questions for you.about "Blast Off Beans"..

Just today, on the lunch hour, I managed to catch the segment of "Mr. Food"
(Ooooh, it's so good!-that's the shtick line) on the local TV station. All
this week "Mr. Food" is at the Kennedy Space Center.

He interviewed the former head of the ground control crews. And he told
this story.

It apparently began with the First Space Shuttle mission. A number of guys
brought in food, potluck style, to help them keep away the munchies, etc.
One of the guys, who was being interviewed (don't recall the name, sorry,
but he's now retired) brought in a crock pot of baked beans with bacon, and
corn bread.

His stuff went quickly. Soon afterwards, there was apparently an expedition
to look up further used crockpots (due to the overwhelming demand), and
eventually everyone at mission control during STS missions was eating "Blast
Off Beans".to the tune of 60 gallons per.

The guy who was interviewed said that this "tradition" has been continued
ever since. 60 gallons of the stuff (per day? It wasn't explicitly stated)
during any STS mission.

JimO, here's the questions.

Did you eat the "Blast Off Beans" concoction? Did you eat it regularly
during STS missions? Was it really good (how would you rate it)?

This is part of the STS history.just gastronomically inspired..

Enlighten me, and the assembled..
