In a review I'm preparing of claims made in the latest
"Ilyushin was first" Hollywood documentary, I need
to confirm some facts I used in 'Red Star in Orbit' (1981)
that were based on material in Daniloff's "Kremlin and
the Cosmos".
specifically, the clock times on April 12, 1961, of the
Soviet news announcements regarding the progress of
the 'Vostok' flight. The first press annnouncement, according to
my data, occurred while Gagarin was still in flight. I want to
verify this.
Also, regarding the March 1961 unmanned Vostok tests --
can anyone easily look up how long after launch they were
announced?
I think we have the information correctly but I want to go back as
close to original sources as I can get.
Thanks!
