Russia to Send Japanese Astronaut Into Space in December

KOROLYOV, Moscow region. May 29 (Interfax-AVN) - One of the three places on the Russian Soyuz TMA-17 spacecraft to be launched to the International Space Station in December 2009 will be taken by a Japanese astronaut. 

"His name is Soichi Noguti. He is due to fly on board the Soyuz TMA spacecraft in December 2009," Executive Director at the Japanese Space Agency Kuniaki Shiraki told a press conference at the Russian Mission Control Center on Friday. 

He will fly to the ISS together with Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kotov and U.S. astronaut Timothy John Creamer.
