[FPSPACE] Why Kistler K-1 failed to secure funding

Is there an on-line appraisal of Kistler's K-1 vehcile development effort? Why did it fail to raise money in the COTS process? Was the development plan realistic?

I think it may be instructive to look at Kistler's fate. It had everything going for it at the beginning - big names, existing technology (engines...), a potential market (first LEO constellations, later ISS re-supply)...
