First off, I'd also like to mention to Jens the Rio Cuarto impacts. These appear to have killed nearly everyone living east of the Andes, while the deaths due to global climatic collapse still have to be worked out.
The theory that Morrison promotes differs from what the data shows. Again, the people working cometary impact do not have adequate funds, while those who raise doubts do. What is wrong here?
Moving on, there was specific legislation passed by the House and Senate instructing former Administrator Griffin to deal with the impact hazard - they told him it was a priority. They even went so far as to insert specific wording in the NASA charter.
But apparently Griffin did not understand what they told him. Perhaps it was his fixation with manned Mars flight, but whatever the case I suppose that the inability to understand English is sufficient enough of a deficit to preclude one from holding the position of NASA Administrator.
I await the new NASA IG's report on this mess, and am very glad to see Canada moving responsibly. I wish their team the best of luck.
