-- A Swedish computer hacker was indicted Tuesday for
breaking into the networks of tech-gear maker Cisco
Systems Inc. and high-end computing equipment at the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The
attacks underscore the development of a vast

Pettersson was accused in the five-count indictment of
breaking into the computer system and network of San Jose,
California-based Cisco in May 2004 and stealing operating
system code. He allegedly broke into computers belonging
to the U.S. space agency NASA's Ames Research Center and
the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division in Moffett Field,
California, in May and October of the same year. During
the alleged intrusion some Cisco Internetwork Operating
System code was allegedly misappropriated. The indictment
also charges two intrusion counts involving the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), including
computers at the Ames Research Center and the NASA
Advanced Supercomputing Division, located at Moffett
Field, Calif. The indictment alleges Pettersson
committed these intrusions on May 19, 2004, May 20,
