It seems as if the average US American is tired of sponsoring
the killing of innocent Afghan civilians:
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/03/17/thinkfast-march-17-2009/
Quote from ThinkFast: March 17, 2009:
A new USA Today/Gallup poll finds that American support for
the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan is at a new low. Forty-two
percent said the U.S. made "a mistake" in sending military
forces to Afghanistan - the highest since the start of the
war - and up from 30% in February and 6% in January 2002.
Thirty-eight percent said the war is going well - "the
lowest percentage since that question was asked in Sept.
2006."
Personally, while I support NATO's overturn of the Old
Taliban regime in Kabul, I'm not at all happy with the
neoconservative agenda of killing as many Taliban
'enemies' as possible. Do you realize, Edmund, how many
souls are victimized?
And yes, the issue is highly relevant to fpspace, since
the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have a direct impact on
US funds available to the conquest of space.
You and I agreed, I thought, that the 'real enemy' these
days is not made up of a motley collection of unfriendly
Bedouins, but rather a sinister posse of mountain-sized
rocks hurtling around planet Earth with the intent to do
serious harm.
