JimO,
I cannot help with the source, but your inquisitor may want to try to explain the shadows on the Buran-it seems to be facing into the sun, while Earth is illuminated from the side. Also, were the Buran's payload bay doors opened in flight, or not?

Subject: [FPSPACE] photoshopped view of Buran in orbit
Anybody know the original source of this photoshopped
view of Buran in orbit?

I've seen various collections of computer-generated Buran flight scenes,
most very nicely done. But right now I'm discussing this picture with a
guy who insists it was taken from a US spy satellite.
Thanks!
