Dear All,

I note that NASA is claiming that "Based on where he’s sitting on the
shuttle", Christopher Cassidy (STS-127 mission specialist) became the 500th
person in history to fly into space.
(see NASA Mission Summary with link on
_http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/news/index.html_
(http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/news/index.html) )

I haven't had time to check this landmark number, but it sounds about
right. Does this include the Challenger crew?

I also note that the number of spacewalks in support of International
Space Station assembly and maintenance has reached 129 (with one more to go on
STS-127) and passed a total duration of 800 hours. Not bad, considering how
quite a few commentators expressed concerns and doubts over the number of
EVAs required to build the ISS prior to start of construction.
