I know this may not help much, but I recall that when Gordon Cooper

said he could see ships making wakes in the ocean and smoke rising 

from homes during his Mercury mission in 1963, he was not believed

at first.

The new book "Rocket Men", page 139, describes the Soviet 'Almaz' reconnaissance program, 
quoted the Feb 1977 mission commander (that would be Gorbatko) as reporting, 
"We could see human beings on the street."
 
Has anyone else ever heard of this quotation? How credible does it sound?
