After the Vostok flight with Yuri Gagarin, Europe had it's first ever live Soviet television coverage of his arrival back in Moscow, and the pictures had the logo "Live from Moscow".

The first launch that I saw was that of Gemini 4, the first time that we saw a live launch in the UK (thanks to Earlybird/INTELSAT-1) and in those days such coverage was flagged as "Live from the USA".

A year later, the BBC covered the Surveyor 1 landing as it happened, and so we went to "Live from the Moon". A similar caption was used for the Apollo lunar missions, of course.

In July 1976 we had "Live from Mars" as the Viking 1 lander images were sent around the world in as-near real time as possible.

And now .......... ?

Television companies in the UK (can't speak for elsewhere) flash with equal pride as if something clever and momentous is happening "Live from our studio next door"!

How times and perspectives change.
