Hi Jens -

Why the hell do you expect the US taxpayer to pick up the entire bill for this? You're real good telling us about what NASA should do, but what part of this do you think the ESA should do? Why should the EU rate payers get a free ride?

What needs to be done to set up a reliable detection system has been known for quite a while:

http://www.nss.org/resources/library/planetarydefense/index.htm

in other words CAPS, as have the deflection options.

My opinion based on the impacts at Rio Curaca, Rupunin, and Tromsk is that fragments of COMET Schwassmann Wachmann are going to present us with at least a 5 kiloton hazard in 2022, and if we're real unlucky one anywhere from one to two orders of magnitude larger.

As far as tagging goes, its a real shame CONTOUR's Thiokol Star 30
motor blew up. Gosh gee thanks, Thiokol. Really well done there.
