[FPSPACE] Ares 1/Ares 5 or Direct?

We're now seeing Mike Griffin's qualifications as an engineer promoted. You here know other engineers, and you know Griffin's engineering background quite well, and
have your own opinions of his engineering, and particularly of his systems architectures.
It seems likely to me that Griffin was chosen by the Bush
Administration as NASA Administrator specifically because he wanted ATK's Ares 1 before he ever stepped in the door. That in turn explains the capsule resize from 3-4 to 6 better than anything else.
As for ATK's sponsorship of Griffin's professorship, I believe you know of that as well.
You here also know the defects of Ares1, and of Griffin's Moon architecture. Does anyone here want to defend either one?
