   This means that Iran successfully launched a satellite using the N
Korean  Taep'o-dong-1 before North Korea did! 
Is that a world first, for a client to succeed before the vendor
country has?

  Now that they have the status symbol of a home-launched satellite,
that gives the Iranian Govt. a substitute macho symbol for the atomic
bomb they were attempting to make until 2003. Presumably they will, as
the declining oil & gas prices permit, start launching one satellite per
year for weather, reconnaisance, & communications.
