Kudos to Excalibur Almaz for not being afraid of a hatch in the heat
shield. This has been amply demonstrated on Gemini/MOL, TKS and of
course every shuttle with 5 (I think?) heat shield doors.
The proposed design is also reminiscent of MOL again with the hab
module behind the crew module.
No need for an excessively powerful (and thus heavy) launch escape
system able to hoist both the crew module and the hab module.
