I already had some 'dialog' with Haimoff quite a few years ago when a
version of this film was released in the UK. Details at:
http://www.astronautix.com/astros/ilyushin.htm
To quote my summary at the time:
No confirming visual evidence is shown during the 51:10 running time of the
documentary. There are no photographs or film showing Ilyushin in cosmonaut
training or of his mission. Images of documents proving the case are not
shown. While the voice-over describes the alleged mission of Ilyushin,
images are shown illustrating what is being said. But they are rather
misleading - none of the film is actually of the events being described. It
is all just archive film of cosmonaut training and recovery. Some time is
spent interviewing prominent Russians (Dr. Roald Sagdeyev, Dr. Sergei
Khrushchev) in regard to general aspects of the Soviet system and its space
program - but they say not a word about Ilyushin's flight.
Needless to say, I was on Haimoff's enemy list thereafter...
An even more remarkable example of this was a mockumentary shown in Europe
some years ago, describing in detail how the Apollo moon landings were faked
by Stanley Kubrick - complete with personal interviews with Kubrick's widow,
Kissinger, Rumsfeld, etc etc ... all taken out of context, but bolstered by
'eyewitness' testimony, and all seeming to fully prove the case. This
mockumentary, however, was an intentional joke (as seen by the bloopers of
the 'eyewitnesses' run under the final credits)... nevertheless, again, lots
of e-mails about the proven case.
Perhaps this will make you think about how much of what you see on the news
as 'true' has just as tenuous a grounding in reality... (recommended
