t was launched at 11:30:15" from the musadan-ri. The first stage burn went
normal and second stage went on over Japan with no debris impacting in the
six prefectures of northern mainland Japan. The first stage impacted with
the planned Sea of Japan splash down point. The second stage impacted down
range in the Pacific ocean as planned and the Payload shroud was apparently
separated while the second stage continued it burn impacting in the same
pacific impact zone as the second stage. The NORAD DSP early warning
satellites system US detected the launch is confirmed by US sources and
methods. No debris impacted from the launch in Japan and it was tracked by
the Japanese Self Defense Forces. Both Japan and South Korea and the US
department of State confirmed the initial launch detection later giving the
exact time. There is no confirmation of third stage firing and satellite
orbital insertion awaiting US data. South Korea said it is a satellite
launch not a ballistic missile but Japan characterized it as a missile
launch but this does not confirm it success or failure as a satellite
launch. Japan tracked the launch by radar some 2,100 kilometers west of
Japan through the second stage impact apparently. Awaiting third stage
firing and orbital satellite insertion data as well as the official North
Korean confirmation if successful. Orbit should have long since been achieved.
