Hi and Hello -
Can the TG dimensions can be estimated from the standard APAS dock? Wade thought the mockup was for CZ5, and dimensioned accordingly, but clearly it's not. The Mockup appears too long, compared to the CGI image of what may be the production article. Note also the steps going up into the mockup.
Based on previous CZ fairings, I'd guess 4 meters maximum diameter.
Another interesting thing - the "docking masts". Are these radar, radio or what tech? Soyuz compatible? Note their placement on the OMs and note the stubby cover on the TG core module (the one with the panels) at the place where a docking mast could have been. Why is it there? Do SZ return capsules have similar places for mast placement, or are they for periscopes?
All Chinese docking images have shown a two mast system.
Perhaps there's some kind of unique dock between TG1 and TG2, and a unique docking mechanism - take a look at the other mockup in the background behind the mockup.
Sorry Charlie, but no lunar test of a stripped down SZ on these assembly flights. No way to launch that heat shield mass, and maybe no return capsule at all. By the way, Wade got hold of an image of an Apollo type capsule, perhaps for use with CZ5. It's on his SZ page. No forward dock, two support modules behind it.
PS - It looks like NASA will be buying ISS cargo services from ESA and SpaceX.
Facinating questions. I haven't been this functioning in quite a while.
Three flavors,
