Hi and Hello -
I never noticed this before:
http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/launchpad/1921/story-9.htm
The seam between the core and the service/lab module is shown in the left and right images! What the central image shows is a mockup of those individual mission/lab modules.
The service/lab module is the same diameter as the core with panels section where they join! The "other" dock is between those two modules.
Do you folks see that seam and join?
That still leaves what the tanks/batteries? are inside the solar panel section in the right image a mystery to me. Perhaps fuel tanks for the Reaction Control System?
The Lab is the target (TG2, first launch, unmanned), and the panel section with RCS (TG1, second launch, unmanned) the active element in the dock?

"Man and Impact in the Americas", a truly great book, if I do say so myself, and the work in progress "Amazing Stories" - a guide inside today's fringe, including exposes of L. Ron Hubbard, and how the man did not walk on the Moon scam was pulled off, along with much much more -
