This is a really poor experiment, since the thermal profile of an earth-impacting martian meteor is vastly different from a shallow earth-orbiting vehicle return -- from Mars, there would be much higher G's but much briefer thermal exposure. It's like tying an eagle to the wing of a 747 and after the test flight has dismembered the bird, concluding that feathered aerial flight was impossible.
