Emily Lakdawalla, reporting on the Phoenix day two news conference in
the Planetary Society Weblog (see
http://www.planetary.org/blog/article/00001470/) has this:
A southern view from Phoenix shows the backshell and parachute, 300
meters away. The sky is clear enough that a very low rise about 14
kilometers (9 miles) away is visible as what looks like a line of
hills on the horizons.
So, since as I said in my other message, the backshell and parachute are
about twice as far away as the heat shield, it may be possible for
Phoenix to spot it as well.
It looks like we're in for some great stuff from and over the Martian
Arctic!
