David,
Thanks for your comment about your Salyut drawing. I just made a pencil note
with the "new" copyright on my copy. Illustrators tend to get invisible in
publications and I like to know who made what. I suggest that you also send this
information directly to the editor, so that at least JBIS puts things right in
this case with a clarification note in the next issue.
Another case often found in magazines and websites has to do with Peter Gorin's
very useful drawings of rockets included in Asif Siddiqi's book Challenge to
Apollo. They are generally credited as "NASA", which simply is not true, even
though they are part of a book published by NASA. The copyright is clearly
stated under each drawing on the book.
