Some may remember the footnote to real space history that was Ed Dwight, a competent transport pilot who was -- according to him -- picked by President Kennedy to become the nation's first black astronaut but never made the NASA final cut, for all the nasty accusations Dwight and his supporters later made over the years. He later became a sculptor.
He's in the news again, this time over a commission for a statue, that some other artist won -- that artist not being black, Dwight is whining again it should have been HIM... well, at least, whining again.

Some questioned the selection of a Chinese sculptor for the memorial. Critics said that an African-American artist, or any American, would have been preferable. At least one black sculptor, Ed Dwight of Denver, has said Lei's models do not resemble King.
