But the Russian RIA-Novosti and Novosti Kosmonavtiki published the news
first, not NYT. Well, Novosti Kosmonavtiki published also the Roscosmos
chief's denial next day.
See http://rian.ru/technology/20080611/110178980.html and
http://www.novosti-kosmonavtiki.ru/content/news.shtml (Russian only)

It appears no final decision has been made since Mr. Brin made his $5
million investment in the company that will serve as a deposit on a future
flight. Note also that the same NY Times' "Google Co-Founder Books a Space
Flight" report (
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/11/technology/11soyuz.html?scp=2&sq=Space%20adventures&st=cse)
tells:
"
Anatoly Perminov, the head of the Russian space agency, has said repeatedly
that the seats for tourists could disappear in 2010, when the size of the
station crew expands to six from three and requires more of the available
seats on the Soyuz.
"

So either two unknown Kazakhs or Mr. Brin with his downpayment made...
Meeting in Paris will tell us next month.
