Bart

Thank you for this update.

The 20111 Research module is built or certainly potentially ready. Will this
be the one in storage at Khrunichev? It will need some upgrades and fitting
out.

Best wishes

Rex

Subject: [FPSPACE] RKK Energiya's plans for manned spaceflight

Russian lead flight director Vladimir Solovyov recently held a presentation
in Korolyov outlining plans for the expansion of the ISS Russian segment and
RKK Energiya's vision on the future of Russia's piloted space programme. The
most important slides from his PowerPoint presentation were put on the
Novosti Kosmonavtiki on-line discussion forum :

The current schedule for the Russian segment is :

2009 : small research module (IM-1) (mass : 4 tons)

2010 : small research module (IM-2) (mass : 7.9 tons)

2011 : big research module (MLM/"FGB-2") (mass : 20.7 tons)

2013 : small docking module

2014 : set of two solar panels (NEM-1)

2015 : set of two solar panels (NEM-2)

Judging by the slides, RKK Energiya is weighing five possible Soyuz
successors :

1) What looks like an enlarged Soyuz descent capsule (mass : 11 tons)

2) A lifting body type Kliper vehicle (mass : 16 tons)

3) A winged version of Kliper (mass : 17 tons)

4) A hybrid version of Kliper with wings that would be deployed shortly
before landing (mass : 15 tons)

5) An Apollo-shaped vehicle (mass : 12 tons)
