Yes, Israel was busy diversifying their types of nuclear munitions during the period 
of shuttle design.
 
To my knowledge, the only reason the shuttle was increased to the size and 
configuration that it finally had was to gain DoD support, and DoD demanded
the ability to launch reconnaisance satellites, if Delta production was going to stop. 
 
How the Soviet analysis of the Shuttle as a skip bomber came about is unknown to me, and how 
the shuttle ended up being seen as such a tactical threat by the Soviet leadership is beyond me.
The decision was made in 1987 by Breshnev, when he redirected Glushko.
 
In terms of Directed Energy Weapons, such as X-ray lasers, what Teller had in mind 
I don't know. There were also many comments in the western press about Soviet laser ground facilities prior to Reagan's "star wars" announcement.
 
Realistically, Solid State Heat Capacity Lasers are going to have to be discussed frankly soon, along with simple kinetic and explosive systems. Because of very pressing problems, I look for this about April of next year, no sooner.

???Nearly no problems with lasers- simply choppers are much more cheaper destroyed by Shilka or DSheKA 12.7 gun.
 
Yes - the ability of small shoulder launched rockets to stop Israel's blitzkreig
tactics with tanks and helicopters, along with their intelligence feeds to the Bush 
White House, goes a long way towards explaining how so many US troops ended up in Iraq, 
astride the routes between Iran and Syria.
 
I need to mention here that I've had a stroke, and am not in contact with anyone. This is 
all just vague memories from a long time back, from parts of my memory which have not been affected by my stroke, along with some guesses based on previous experience.
 
I do know that I don't want to pay for another arms race, this one in space, and I am sick and tired of paying for these dangerous toys. I am also sick and tired of a US industrial base which is composed mainly of a military-industrial complex, the one Eisenhower warned of.
