Hi Sergei -

You're leaving Israel's "need" for an ABM system out of your analysis of
the space arms race. But then you're leaving out the Palestinian/Israeli
conflict entirely in your summary. And the religious beliefs of the neo-cons
here in the US, and their rise to power.

When religion and science mix, it makes for a difficult analysis of historical
forces.

There's also those little problems with lasers and directed energy weapons
technologies.

Personally, I'm really tired of about 6 million people taking the rest of us
6 billion people along on their ride, but maybe G*d is simply punishing Christianss
for anti-semitism.

It's good that we launched only one Buran.
Why?
Space shuttle was the second large military step into space. (First was N-1
attempts) And the first mmmm partially successfull.
So what happened?:
1) USSR started to create space weapons- interceptors and so on.
2) USA- desided to have something in responce and this something must be much
more hi tech. So first of all it must be tested.
Spaceshuttle is such a truck to transport test equipement
3) USSR saw this and desided to build something similar- the same truck. Just
for the case if cruel imperialist would build something usefull. :)
However we already had 11K69 vehicle with antisats.
4)Military component of Spaceshuttle failed so there was no any further
necessity for Buran also.
All cries about economic efficiency of Shuttle appeared to be lie. It is more
expensive than conventional launchers.
That's all.
Neverhteless as a technological chievement spaceshuttle is important.
