[FPSPACE] Article that Buran could possibly be revived--to aid the US

David, I would love to see that!
Speaking of You Only Live Twice, note that while the clearly Gemini
spacecraft are called Jupiter, the Soviet spaceship that was captured
later on was called Gemini! I know it was a two-seater capsule, but
still. And they used footage of a Gemini-Titan liftoff (complete with
palm trees) to represent the Soviet launch. You would think at least
a few people in 1967 might have figured out that was an American
space rocket.
The Soviet "Gemini" was based on the earlier Western conjecture
that their manned vessels were shaped like the nosecones - either
that or they just couldn't be bothered to go into detailed research.
And it was never clearly explained why the two superpowers HAD
to keep launching manned missions into LEO. You would think that
after just one of them was grabbed by a mysterious space vessel,
resulting in the loss of an astronaut to boot, they would have
stopped all launches to make an investigation.
I wonder what became of the full-scale and smaller spacecraft
models from this film?
And remember, folks - when you have captured a British spy in
your secret extinct volcano fortress, be sure to show him where
the big red button is that will blow up the spacecraft-capturing
spacecraft and thus thwart your plans for world domination.

Classic! I've got a Russian documentary which has a seen where Chelomei's daughter is talking about that scene where the big ship captures the other. I haven't translated it yet, but she appears to think the whole idea is pretty amusing.
